Dropbox Hanya Dukung File System EXT4 di Linux mulai November 2018 – Dropbox adalah salah satu layanan besar dan favorit yang digunakan oleh pengguna GNU/Linux. Selain pemasangannya yang mudah, fitur yang ditawarkan oleh DropBox sendiri cukup banyak diminati oleh pengguna.
Nah baru-baru ini beberapa pengguna menerima notifikasi di desktop mereka yang berbunyi Dropbox akan berhenti melakukan sinkronisasi mulai November. Akhirnya setelah beberapa pengguna mulai menanyakan hal tersebut di forum, salahseorang Moderator menjelaskan bahwa mulai 7 November 2018 DropBox mengakhiri dukungan untuk sinkronisasi Dropbox ke drive dengan sistem file tertentu yang “tidak umum”. Sistem file yang didukung adalah NTFS untuk Windows, HFS + atau APFS untuk Mac, dan Ext4 untuk Linux. Ini berarti, sistem berkas XFS, Btrfs, dan sistem berkas “tidak umum” lainnya tak lagi dapat menyinkronkan Dropbox. Berikut keterangan yang didapat dari post Moderator Dropbox
“Hi everyone, on Nov. 7, 2018, we’re ending support for Dropbox syncing to drives with certain uncommon file systems. The supported file systems are NTFS for Windows, HFS+ or APFS for Mac, and Ext4 for Linux.
We’ve updated our desktop requirements accordingly here.
A supported file system is required as Dropbox relies on extended attributes (X-attrs) to identify files in the Dropbox folder and keep them in sync. We will keep supporting only the most common file systems that support X-attrs, so we can ensure stability and a consistent experience.
If you received a notification, but are running one of the supported file systems, it’s possible that you may have recently had a computer linked that was running an unsupported file system but have been since upgraded, or that computer is no longer being used.

Secara teknis, Dropbox bergantung pada atribut tambahan yang disebut dengan X-attrs untuk mengidentifikasi berkas dan menyinkronkannya. Hal ini sudah ditulis oleh mereka di forum yang mengatakan “A supported file system is required as Dropbox relies on extended attributes (X-attrs) to identify files in the Dropbox folder and keep them in sync.”. Namun jika hanya alasan ini, masih banyak pengguna yang bukan pemakai file system EXT4 kecewa. Mereka protes, karena sejatinya xattrs juga didukung di file sistem jenis lain. Yes, I’m running LUKS encryption on top of my BTRFS partition, where I have my Dropbox folder. And I still don’t see a valid and a proper reason why this configuration shouldn’t work.
Tentu saja masih banyak pengguna lain yang kecewa mengingat saat ini EXT4 sendiri mulai ditinggalkan oleh beberapa pengguna karena beberapa file system lain seperti btrfs dianggap lebih baik.
